The Soft Province - self titied

Last week saw Three Ring Records release the debut self-titled full length from Montreal's The Soft Province. For a band that is a part time musical outlet for members of The Besnard Lakes, "The Broadway Coastline" is close to what you would expect if 1966 Brian Wilson had recorded with 1970 Velvet Underground and in other places, like a caffeinated Bedhead. While the track "Thin Ocean" has the herky-jerky, driving groove of bands like The Feelies or Yo La Tengo, some others recall an amped up Byrds. The band is offering my least favorite track One Was a Lie for free download. Purchase it on compact disc here.
